Greetings,I was reviewing the Holistic spray plan updated May 2021 in the Secret Tattoo and at the bottom of the document there is a reference:
“Aerated compost tea can be added with effective microbes to maximize species diversity. Phototrophic bacterial boosts include Quantum, Spectrum (from Tainio), and GroBiotix Px3 (from Organic Approach).”
Looking at the GroBiotix Px3 Pure Purple Phototrophs (PNScool smiley website there isn’t much information on how much to use in a tank mix. Should you brew this like EM or take a different approach?
Any suggestions are appreciated in how to add this to a tank mix.

Hi Tim,Somewhere within the ‘Arboreal Microbes’ list of topics is discussion concerning the on-farm propagation of photosynthetic bacteria, specifically Rhodopseudomonas palustris, aka The Purple Guys, and whether or not it should be expected to survive on-farm scale-up along the lines of EM-1 — I can’t find it at the moment in order to direct you, but it’s there somewhere, perhaps contained in a more general EM-1 conversation, since EM-1 typically does contain R. palustris. Basically, the conclusion was that R. palustris is unlikely to survive the general scale-up incubation conditions we use for the EM-1 which favor the lactic acid bacterial species, thus some of us have opted to buy The Purple Guys separately (via commercial formulations like Quantum) and add them directly to our spray tanks in addition to our farm-raised EM-1. I followed the link you provided for the GroBiotix blend, but looks like they don’t have their label uploaded yet. I would assume that the bacteria contained in the blend would need specialized treatment in order to attempt a scale-up on farm, but you might want to call the company directly and ask for guidance — using commercial blends as “mother” for a scale-up batch is getting more common in general, and some companies are glad to advise on this subject.

Thanks Brittany,I reached out to Organic Approach and actually received a reply this evening. I do worry a bit about off label usage as it doesn’t list fruit trees.
I’ve copied the applicable portion of the label below:
Quote
GroBiotix Px3 may be applied by itself or as an additive with most
companion materials. For general maintenance applications use 0.25 ounces
per gallon of water and spray foliage until run-off as well as soaking the soil.
Applications may be made every 2 to 4 weeks as needed.
The maximum recommended concentration of GroBiotix Px3 to water is
1:300 or about 0.42 ounces per gallon of water.
As a general guide we recommend the following:
Spring:
Ornamentals: apply 0.3 oz per gallon of water once per month
Veggie Crops: apply 0.3 oz per gallon of water twice per month
Turf and Fairways: apply 24 oz per acre once per month
Greens and Tees: apply 0.5 oz per 1,000 sq.ft. every two weeks.
Summer:
Ornamentals: apply 0.2 oz per gallon of water once per month
Veggie Crops: apply 0.2 oz per gallon of water twice per month
Turf and Fairways: apply 16 oz per acre once per month
Greens and Tees: apply 0.4 oz. per 1,000 sq.ft. every two weeks
Fall:
Ornamentals: apply 0.4 oz per gallon of water once per month
Veggie Crops: apply 0.4 oz per gallon of water once per month
Turf and Fairways: apply 32 oz per acre once per month
Greens and Tees: apply 0.6 oz per 1,000 sq.ft. every two weeks
